The Lucid Body House is now open! We are so excited to share this with our community, that we wanted to start with supporting a venture that lives close to our hearts;
The Babawatoto Center for Children.

Mgunga Mwa Mnyenyelwa is visiting New York!  As a master of Theatre for Social Change, he is giving a workshop to the actors and veterans involved in The Lucid Body Lab’s The Veterans Project; Homecoming

We will spend the day creating a short piece with Mgunga to practice the Behavior Change Process with whch he is renouned. This process speaks to how to use theatre to inspire dialogue within communities that need support.

This short piece will then be offered to you, along with slides, drinks, snacks and warm company. Please sign up now and join us for a special night.

“Baba Watoto” in Kiswahili means simply Father of the Children. The Baba Watoto Centres, established in 2008, were born out of a fierce commitment to social justice by founder, Mgunga Mwa Mnyenyelwa. Baba Watoto’s goal is to empower impoverished children and youth to overcome daily challenges, from health to unemployment and much more in between.

theatre for social changeOperation of the Baba Watoto Centres has been taken over by the Paparanda Theatre Lab, an organization also founded by Mr. Mgunga.  With a center already in the low-income suburbs of Dar es Salaam, a new development was made in 2010 to open a center in the remote town of Iringa.

Fay Simpson and Gamal Palmer developed a summer program; Catalysts for Social Change with The Yale School of Drama and The Yale Divinity School, to assist and learn from Mgunga in his Theatre for Social Change Process.
